Thorbjorg is a young woman from Hafnarfjörður, who is completing her art studies at the Tröllaskagi College and plans to pursue further studies abroad. Her paintings would likely be classified as magical realism, where reality meets fantasy. The paintings in this exhibition connect to Greek mythology as well as to several important milestones in her life over the past few years, and the works are very personal to her. In all the works, she poses as a character within the narrative. In the first picture, Þorbjörg is in the Labyrinth of the Minotaur, and then we see her as Icarus, flying away from the labyrinth towards the sun. Next, we see the moment when Aracne, the weaver who challenged Athena to a contest, hangs herself in her own web, and after that comes Narcissus, captivated by his own reflection. The fifth and final painting shows Daphne as the goddess Artemis, and the image is characteristic of the peace she has found in her life. The paintings are made with acrylics.
She opens her exhibition in the glass space on 22 August at 16:00.
