Hafnarfjörður welcomes Christmas with its annual Christmas village, full of joy, delicious treats and fun Christmas wares, a splendour of lights and a world of wonder in Hellisgerði, Hjartasvelli and so much more.
The Christmas village at Thorsplan in Hafnarfjörður will be open every weekend until Christmas; Fridays from 5 pm - 8 pm, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 pm - 6 pm, and until 9 pm on Christmas Eve. The Christmas Village is a hive of festive activity, and the beautifully decorated houses of Hafnarfjörður have long been nationally renowned for a wide variety of exciting gifts, gourmet treats, crafts and design. It's the perfect place to find the ideal Christmas present while enjoying delicious food to warm you from the inside out. The Christmas elves visit on Saturdays, and Grýla will be roaming the town on Sundays. Strandgata becomes a pedestrianised street while the Christmas Village is open, and toilet facilities can be found behind Bæjarbíó.
A light weekend schedule
- Friday at 8 p.m. – All the details at the Hafnarfjörður Library. Four authors, a wonderful evening, music, refreshments and entertainment. The authors are: Ragnheiður Gestsdóttir, Tómas R. Einarsson, Vigdís Grímsdóttir and Vilborg Davíðsdóttir. Arndís Þórarinsdóttir will lead the discussion with her usual brilliance, and during the interval, the singing quartet Barbari will perform barbershop music.
- Friday from 8 pm to 11 pm. Christmas karaoke at Hamrinn, the youth centre of Hafnarfjörður
- Saturday from 1 pm to 3 pm. Christmas cheer at Hafnarfjörður Library – you can get your picture taken with Father Christmas himself.
- Saturday from 1 pm to 6 pm. Pop-up haircut at the experience house on Thorsplan with the guys from Studio 22O.
- Sunday from 1 pm to 6 pm. The Hellish Chef is going to town in the experience house at Thorsplan with his jams and tastings.
- Sunday at 4 p.m. Christmas carol singing with Guðrún Árnýja at Thorsplan.
- Saturday and Sunday from 1 pm to 5 pm. The Icehouse invites passers-by for a studio visit and some Christmas cheer.
- Thursday – Saturday from 5 pm - 10 pm. Hafnarfjörður's Christmas Heart in the festive marquee behind the Bæjarbíó. Ideal for mums and dads, grandmas and grandpas, and groups of friends to come along and enjoy a bite to eat and a Christmas drink.
