Hafnarfjörður Library presents an exhibition of works by Hemn A. Hussein.
Hemn is a multidisciplinary artist from southern Kurdistan. He holds a BA degree in English Philosophy and a Master's degree in Social Sciences/International Relations.
In 2016, Hemn was in partnership with the Slemani Film Foundation and works as the Communications Manager for the Slemani International Film Festival (SIFF).
His artistic career was strengthened by his arrival in Iceland in 2020 as an asylum seeker, and since then he has collaborated with local and international institutions on a variety of artistic projects, including painting, sensory art, interactive and immersive theatre, performance art and filmmaking.
Hemn experiments with style, creation and content to find his unique path to his art. His artworks are abstract and spiritually surreal, with the perfect embrace of geometry.
Abstract, for the sole purpose of indicating a deviation from reality in the description of the imagery. Surreal, due to the appearance of indeterminate anthropomorphic figures and geometries, employing the intensity and calculations of sacred geometry. However, Hemn completely liberates the audience to interpret the artworks through their subjective feelings, thoughts and emotions.
His journey will continue abroad and at home, where he calls Heim or Home.
