Friday 7th February, 6pm-10pm will be celebrated Museum Night at Hafnarborg, the museum's doors will therefore be open late into the evening, with an art workshop and a torch-lit tour also on offer. Below you can find more detailed information about Hafnarborg's programme for Museum Night:

18:00
Art workshop – image: building

An art workshop will be offered in connection with the museum's current photography exhibitions. There, visitors will have the opportunity to experiment with composition and thus train their visual skills by staging found objects. The aim is to see the beauty in the everyday and to explore how different perspectives affect composition, whether approaching abstract or classic still life. All materials will be provided, and the objects can be arranged in various ways, photographed, or drawn. The session will be led by Unnur Mjöll S. Leifsdóttir, an artist and project manager for education and outreach.

20:00
Landnam – guided tour by torchlight
Búi Bjarmar Aðalsteinsson leads guests through the photography exhibition by Pétur Thomsen, Settlement, where visitors will walk through a darkened room with torches. The exhibition features landscape works that the photographer takes at night, using flash to illuminate the scene. In many of the works, a black sky hangs over the landscape, lending the images an otherworldly feel. Among the subjects Pétur explores in a series of photographs of the same name are mines, roads, lava fields, forests, streams and farmland, where he pays particular attention to land use and its impact on the natural environment.

On Museum Night, visitors to the Winter Lights Festival can visit around fifty museums and see a wide variety of exhibitions in the capital region, as well as enjoy a lively and entertaining programme of events. Cultural institutions in Hafnarfjörður, the Library, the Folk Museum and Hafnarborg, also take part as usual. Admission to all museums and events is free for the evening.
