Sketches // Sigurjón Már Svanbergsson
Sketching is not about precision but rather about capturing the main points, form and movement on paper. To achieve this…
The most important meal of the day is a fun and tempting series where all Icelanders should find a meal to suit them.
Hafdís graduated with a BA in Fashion Photography from Leeds Arts University in 2021, but has recently been focusing more on fine art.
The works are as colourful as Hafdís herself, and are in forms not considered strictly traditional for paintings on canvas. Alongside the colourful backgrounds and the mouth-watering food, it is the cartoon characters and the environment surrounding the food that make the paintings surreal. It is enjoyable to see how the food and the characters interact and the overall picture this creates.
The concept for the series is linked to Hafdís's idea of food and the feeling one gets when eating good food. It is almost as if a childlike nature takes over, and the characters we know from cartoons are a manifestation of this.
The exhibition opening will be on Thursday, 20th June from 18:00-20:00 and all are welcome!
Other opening times:
Friday 21 June 13:00 – 18:00
Saturday 22nd June 12:00 – 17:00
Sunday 23 June 14:00 – 17:00
The event is sponsored by the Culture and Tourism Committee of the City of Hafnarfjörður.

The most important meal of the day is a fun and tasty-looking series where all Icelanders should find something to their liking.
Hafdís graduated from Leeds Arts University with a BA degree in fashion photography in 2021, but lately, she has been focusing on her paintings.
The paintings are colourful like Hafdís, and most are painted on unusual forms of canvases. Along with colourful backgrounds and appetising-looking food, there are cartoon characters and their interactions, and the landscape of the food that makes it surreal. It's interesting to see how the characters interact with the food and how it all ties together.
The idea for the series is based on Hafdís's ideas and feelings that one experiences when eating good food. The cartoon characters represent that almost childish longing for good food.
