A heart stone in honour of the musician Magnús Kjartansson will be unveiled at the Town Cinema on Saturday, 20th July at 18:30. Mayor Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir will unveil the heart stone.
The people of Hafnarfjörður have a lot of affection for Magnús. He lived in Hafnarfjörður for 33 years before moving with his wife to the Grímsnes. They have lived there for over a decade. It can therefore be said that Magnús is, in a way, a Hafnarfjörður resident, even though he was born and raised in Keflavík. During the time Magnus and his family lived in Hafnarfjörður, he was involved in the recording, arranging, playing and producing of many of the most famous songs of the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. These include Brimkló, the HLH Group, Halla and Ladda, Brunaliðið, Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson, Geirmundur Valtýsson, as well as numerous other projects that were mostly recorded at Hljóðrita in Hafnarfjörður. He also composed many of his most famous songs during the time he lived in the bay.
Magnús Kjartanssson is the fourth artist to receive the Heartstone in the Heart of Hafnarfjörður. There are already Heartstones in honour of Björgvin Halldórsson, musician and Hafnarfjörður's 2018 Artist in Residence, Þórhallur Sigurðsson, Ladda the actor and musician, and a Heartstone in memory of the writer Guðrún Helgadóttir.
