Environmental assessment of the expansion of the harbour in Straumsvík and a proposal for planning changes

On Thursday, 20th June from 17:00 to 18:30, an information meeting will be held in the Haukar community hall at Ásvellir in Hafnarfjörður regarding the environmental assessment for the expansion of the harbour at Straumsvík and the planning changes for the project. The City of Hafnarfjörður and the Port of Hafnarfjörður are planning works at the harbour area in Straumsvík and the extraction of material from the Rauðamel quarry. In the first phase, a defence dyke is to be constructed, a landfill created for the Carbfix site, a quay built for gas vessels associated with Carbfix's operations, an access road to the harbour area laid, and material extracted from the Rauðamel quarry in Hafnarfjörður. In phases 2 and 3, it is planned to further expand the harbour area with land reclamation, add a rock breakwater and build two quays. The material requirement for the project is up to 2,060,000 m³. The onshore extraction will primarily take place at the Rauðamel quarry in Hafnarfjörður, from which up to 1,340,000 m³ will be extracted. At the meeting, draft proposals for planning changes for the harbour's expansion and the extraction of material from the Rauðamel quarry will also be presented.

The meeting will also be live-streamed on the City of Hafnarfjörður's Facebook page.
