Development Plan for Hraun West and draft amendment to the General Plan 2013-2025

A public information meeting is called regarding the Hraun Vestur development plan and the draft proposal for a description of the amendment to the 2013-2025 Master Plan for Hafnarfjörður.

The area should be allowed to develop and be built up on the basis of the existing settlement.

On Thursday, 23 May 2024, a presentation will be held at Bæjarbíó on the development plan for Hraun Vestur, which is a comprehensive vision for the future development of the area. The development plan sets out guiding principles and guidelines for the future development of the entire area and is an important tool for further planning work, although it is not a binding planning document. Development in the area will occur in phases and take time. The planning framework of the development plan is therefore flexible and takes into account the circumstances of each individual plot or area. The vision is essentially for the area to develop and be built upon based on the existing settlement, the development plan's principles, and the initiatives of individual landowners and their ideas. In this way, the area will evolve over time into a diverse and high-quality settlement.

Diverse use of residential and commercial activities

A revision of the 2013-2025 Master Plan for Hafnarfjörður has been in progress in parallel, and the development plan is closely integrated with this work. The amendment to the Master Plan proposes changing the land use in the Hraun Vestur area from an industrial area, a retail and service area, and residential development to a central area. This will change the potential future development of the area into a mixed-use district offering, amongst other things, a diverse range of uses such as residential and commercial activities. A proposal for the plan statement and amendment to the 2013-2025 Master Plan of Hafnarfjörður will be advertised at a later date.

All those interested in the development and future of this area are encouraged to attend the meeting.
