A free rap workshop with Daughters of Reykjavík, Steinunn and Ragga. The workshop is aimed at 9-12 year-olds and will be held at Hafnarfjörður Library.

A little about the course leader:

Ragga Holm is a qualified leisure and social studies specialist and has served as an assistant director at a leisure centre and youth club. She has also run various courses for primary school children, youth groups and sixth-form students. Ragga now works as a radio presenter on Kissfm 104.5 and has been a DJ and rapper in the band Reykjavíkurdætur since 2017. In 2018, Ragga also released her solo album, Bipolar, which was well-received.

Steinunn Jónsdóttir studied classical singing and viola playing in her younger years alongside a demanding dance programme at the Iceland Dance School. She has worked as a musician and dance teacher since 2011. Steinunn is one of the pioneers of the band Amabadama and for her lyrics on the album Heyrðu mig nú, she was nominated for Lyricist of the Year at the 2014/2015 Icelandic Music Awards. She has extensive experience working with children and teaching both performance and songwriting.

The band Reykjavíkurdætur burst onto the Icelandic cultural scene about a decade ago and immediately attracted a great deal of attention for their unvarnished lyrics, uninhibited behaviour and their uniqueness as an all-female group in the Icelandic rap scene. Since 2013, the band has performed in over 20 countries, played at all the major festivals and events in Iceland and won numerous awards, most notably the prestigious MME award at Eurosonic and the Jónas Hallgrímsson award on Icelandic Language Day in 2019. The Dætur, who are eight in total, have released three albums and numerous singles during their career, as well as running songwriting and rap workshops for children and giving lectures both at home and abroad.
