Conceptual art and humanitarian issues

In this exhibition, Svava Dögg will allow you to glimpse into her mind through paintings and text. She has just completed her first year at the Academy of Fine Arts, where she placed a strong emphasis on experimentation and self-reflection. This year, she discovered that conceptual art particularly resonated with her, as did using her voice as an artist to draw attention to certain issues. For those who are unfamiliar, concept art, in short, is primarily concerned with the idea—that is, what the artist wants to convey. The object itself, or what the viewer sees, is less important, though of course it still matters.

The paintings in this exhibition were not pre-planned; they just happened somehow, and Svava Dögg sees herself as merely an instrument of her thoughts, though she usually does not know what she is painting, or what message lies in the works until they are well underway, and sometimes not until the works are completely finished and up on the wall. Then they speak to her and she writes down what she hears and sees. Humanitarian issues have always been close to her heart. In recent years, her work has mainly focused on mental health, but now global issues, particularly the war in the West Bank and immigration, seem to be foremost in her mind.

The title, 'Context', refers to the fact that the works all hang together in a specific context. Context is extremely important, as are commas.
