The Healthy City of Hafnarfjörður invites you to an informative and inspiring evening at Bæjarbíó in the heart of Hafnarfjörður, designed for everyone who wants to learn about issues concerning children and young people. Professional education on equality and sexual health is important for everyone, young and old. An informed and open community supports the City of Hafnarfjörður's aim to be a city of multiculturalism and diversity, where everyone feels safe, welcome, and has the opportunity to flourish.

Evening Programme

  • The band Bergmál performs with some fun songs
  • Why it is important for the school system and parents to support LGBTQ+ children and young people. Rósa Björg Ómarsdóttir (she) Team Leader of the BUGL Trans Team and Nurse
  • Gender-based violence: The importance of gender studies and sex education in the school system. Eygló Árnadóttir (she), specialist in schools' responsibility regarding gender-based violence.
  • HHH – Queer meet-up in Hafnarfjörður. Sigmar Ingi Sigurgeirsson (he) and Dagný Kára Magnúsdóttir (she) staff of the HHH youth centre
  • A true story. Guðbjörg Kolbeins tells her story as a queer young person.
  • Gender studies and sex education in the primary schools of Hafnarfjörður.Kristín Blöndal Ragnarsdóttir (she) is a gender studies scholar, teacher and project manager for the implementation of sex and gender education in Hafnarfjörður's primary schools.

The evening is hosted by Kristín Blöndal Ragnarsdóttir, a teacher and gender studies specialist. The City of Hafnarfjörður has contracted Kristín to oversee the implementation of gender studies and sex education in all of the city's primary schools, starting from the autumn of 2023. In recent weeks and months, Kristín has been working on the preparation for the training in close collaboration with staff and representatives from all primary schools in Hafnarfjörður.

This inspiring evening and initiative by the Healthy City of Hafnarfjörður is part of promoting the health of the residents of Hafnarfjörður and friends of the city, and aligns with the health policy that the municipality formulated in 2016. One of the three overarching goals of the health strategy is to enhance the well-being of residents.
