Christmas is approaching – and new titles are flooding the shelves. The Hafnarfjörður Library celebrates carefully selected authors and their contribution to the Christmas book flood every Tuesday at 17:30 throughout November.
The first author is Brynja Hjálmsdóttir, poet and writer, with the book Peacefulness, which is her first novel. She has previously published two books of poetry.
Brynja was born in Reykjavík in 1992. She is the recipient of the Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Encouragement Prize and the Jón úr Vör Poetry Prize, which she received in 2022 for the poem 'When Days Never Dawn, Never'.
For her debut book, Okfrumuna (2019), Brynja was nominated for the Fjörubrékka Award and won the Booksellers„ Staff Choice Award. Okfrumunni was described, among other things, as “one of the most interesting poetry collections of the year„ in a review by Sófía Ása Birgisdóttir, who also said: “It is rare to see such a strong debut as this book'.
