The renovations began with rock armouring outside the garden, after which it was raised by just over two metres. This year, the garden has since been clad in hardwood, with seating platforms and viewing areas installed that offer unique views over the harbour and Faxaflói Bay. The work also recently included the final surfacing and connections to the coastal path, as well as the installation of new lighting for the area and a new entrance beacon.

The development has been very well received by residents and visitors alike, as the North Garden has, in a short space of time, established itself as a popular place for outdoor recreation, socialising and enjoying nature.

Numerous companies and specialists have been involved in the project, contributing their expertise to make the area the magnificent whole it is today. These include Landslag landscape architects, Batteríið architects, the engineering firm Strending, the construction company Galdraöfl, the electrical contractor RAFX, the lighting design company Liska, Konráð Jónsson's Blacksmith Shop, the contracting companies Hagtak and Gröfu og grjót, as well as the staff of Hafnarfjörður Harbour and the City of Hafnarfjörður who have been involved in the design, implementation and development of the area.

Hafnarfjörður Harbour invites residents and other visitors to the Nordurgarður on Thursday evening, 5th November at 20:00, when the lights will be switched on and the area will receive its first official winter makeover. The gathering marks a milestone in the development of the harbour area and the completion of an important development project that will benefit residents and visitors for years to come.
