The effect of screen time on the development and well-being of children

The Healthy City of Hafnarfjörður is hosting a free and informative session that no parent or school staff should miss. An impactful lecture on the effects of screen time on children's development and well-being, the premiere of a video by the Hafnarfjörður Parents' Council, and beautiful messengers of love. The lecture will be live-streamed, but all interested parties are strongly encouraged to take the time to attend in person at Bæjarbíó, to listen, ask questions, and learn. The lecture is the start of a journey whose purpose is to open eyes – everyone's eyes.

Smartphone Use – Effects, Consequences and Resources

Unnur Arna Jónsdóttir is the owner of Hugarfrelsi. Unnur will be the speaker for the educational session, and the aim is, among other things, to provide all interested parties with additional tools to tackle the challenges associated with screen time for children and young people. Most of us realise that screen time has an impact, but few are aware of how damaging its effects can be on our children's health and well-being.

Let's face the facts

The Parents' Council of Hafnarfjörður will premiere an interesting video related to children's screen time. The Parents' Council is ambitious and has exciting ideas about all sorts of things related to increased togetherness, the outdoors and experiences.

Messengers of Love

The Öldutúnsskóli Choir, under the firm direction of Brynhildur Auðbjargardóttir, will perform the song 'Let There Be Light' and thus become messengers of love in Hafnarfjörður. The performance will leave no one untouched.

Stella Björg Kristinsdóttir, Manager of Prevention and Leisure Activities for the City of Hafnarfjörður, is in charge of the educational session.

Together, we are the village – join us!

In autumn 2024, the City of Hafnarfjörður and the health town of Hafnarfjörður launched the series of meetings: We are the village – about the issues of children and young people, their well-being and safety. In 2025, this series of meetings will continue under the title: We are the village – let's look each other in the eye. The title is meaningful and encompasses communication, togetherness, ideas, experiences, and everything that can be done without devices. The year 2025 will be a year of even greater collaboration between homes, schools and the community, and the parent-teacher associations at each school play a major role in this. But above all, it is the parents themselves who play the biggest role.

The series of meetings is also part of the City of Hafnarfjörður's journey to obtain recognition as child-friendly municipality UNICEF in Iceland.
