At its meeting this morning, the Town Council agreed that from 25 February to 1 March, when there is a planning day and the winter holiday in Hafnarfjörður's nursery and primary schools, everyone will be granted free admission to the town's swimming pools.

In Hafnarfjörður there are three public swimming pools, the oldest dating from 1943, the Sundhöllin on Herjólfsgata, while the newest is the Ásvallalaugin, which was opened in 2008.

However, swimming lessons began in Hafnarfjörður in 1909, initially taught in the sea off Hamarskot sandpit, before the lessons were moved west to the Malir.
