Handbook for Superheroes – authors visit Hafnarfjörður

The authors visited Bæjarbíó in the early morning, will be signing their books at Hafnarfjörður Library today at 16:30 and will be among the speakers at the Upplýsingar conference at the weekend.

The libraries of Hafnarfjörður and Garðabær are hosting this year's national conference of Upplýsingar.

To mark the occasion of the libraries of Hafnarfjörður and Garðabær hosting this year's Upplýsingar national conference, they are, in collaboration with the publishing house Drápa, hosting a reading and discussion with the authors of the hugely popular book series: The Superhero Handbook. The authors visited Bæjarbíó in the early morning, will be signing their books at Hafnarfjörður Library today at 16:30, and will be among the speakers at the Upplýsingar national conference at the weekend.

The book series 'Handbook for Superheroes' has been a hit in Iceland and further afield.

The Handbook for Superheroes is one of the most well-known contemporary young adult book series, written and illustrated by the couple, the Swede Elias Våhlund and the Pole Agnes Våhlund. Their latest book has sold over 1.5 million copies in Sweden alone and has been translated into 23 languages. Every year, they are also at the top of the Swedish libraries' list of most borrowed books. Elias and Agnes met all the Year 6 pupils in Hafnarfjörður's primary schools at the Bæjarbíó cinema this morning, and will continue to meet more enthusiastic readers and fans at the Hafnarfjörður Library today to sign their books. All happy children are encouraged to come along with their book and get it signed.

The 2023 Upplýsingar National Conference, held in Hafnarfjörður

The annual conference of Upplýsingar, the professional association for library and information science, will be held at Ásvallur in Hafnarfjörður on 21–22 September. The theme of this year's conference is: Can I help you? The service and development of libraries in modern society, and the keynote speakers will be Jan Holmquist and Kenneth Korstad Langås. Jan will discuss adapting to change and the transformation of library services for modern society. In his talk, Kenneth will discuss the importance of libraries and how they are a vital lifeline for the local community. The couple Agnes and Elias Våhlund will, in their talk, discuss their latest book, which they believe can change people's lives, sharing their thoughts, the process behind the books, and their ideas for reaching young readers. Several of the presentations on the national conference programme are from Hafnarfjörður. Hugrún Margrét, Head of the Children's Department at Hafnarfjörður Library, will discuss the library's strong focus on multiculturalism and inclusive service, Guðrún Ragna Yngvadóttir from Ask Architects will present ideas for a new library in Hafnarfjörður, and Sandra Björg Ernudóttir from Skarðshlíðarskóli will talk about the school's book-related activities.
