Children from Hafnarfjörður sat in two packed sessions this morning and enjoyed the Hafnarfjörður Music School Symphony Orchestra's performance of Maximus Musica.

Nearly seven hundred children from Hafnarfjörður sat spellbound, enjoying the Hafnarfjörður Music School Symphony Orchestra's performance of Maximus Musicaeus. There were two performances this morning, with around 320 at the first and 360 at the second. Yes, Maximus travelled to Hafnarfjörður, but his home is at Harpa.

Maximus Musicaeus then arrived in grand style for a visit, much to the children's delight. Storyteller Valgerður Guðnadóttir told the tale of the musical mouse, with the sounds of the symphony orchestra echoing in the background.

As the website of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra states, Maximús Musicaeus has long been a household favourite with children in Iceland. „The adventure of the charming mouse was first performed at a concert by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in May 2008,“ it says. She is therefore seventeen years old.

Five illustrated books, accompanied by CDs featuring music performed by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, have been released. The first book won the Fjöruverðlaunin award for Children's Book of the Year in 2008.
