The festival Worlds and Heavens begins today.

A festival that opens up a new world for participants

„Icelanders have to realise that there's nothing silly if it's fun,“ says Unnur Helga Möller, events manager at Hafnarfjörður Library. She is ambitious and expects hundreds of guests at the fantasy world of the fancy dress and play event, Heima og himingeimi. The festival is held at Hafnarfjörður Library and starts today at 5 p.m., running from 30 August to 1 September.

All are equal in the worlds and the heavens

„This gathering opens the world of fancy dress and play-acting to those who haven't taken part before. Everyone is welcome, whether they buy their costume on Shrove Tuesday from a department store or are in a 700,000-króna specialised suit, ready for a film shoot. Everyone is equal, because it's all about having fun,“ she says. „Life is a stage, clothes make the man, and you're never too old to play.“

Everything from film costumes to LARP fantasy attire and historical re-enactment can be found at the Heimar and Himingeimar festival. There will be Japanese cosplay, prop-making, buffer weapons, historical sword fighting and laser tag combat.

Many workshops on offer

„Learn to make armour, make a sword, make a costume in 5 minutes – or see people who spend years on their costume. Have a costume? Wear it! Sign up for a workshop! Take photos of yourself! The only thing that matters is taking part,“ says Unnur.
