Let's exercise our right to vote

The local elections on 16 May 2026 are an opportunity to have a direct impact on your local community and the services that matter most to you in your daily life. Exercising your right to vote is a powerful way to take part in democracy and shape the future of your community. Although it may sometimes seem that a single person's vote makes little difference, it is the collective vote that counts – and when we turn out to vote, it increases the weight of the issues we want to see changed. With good participation, we ensure that local authorities are built on the broad and diverse voices of residents of all ages.

Local authorities play a key role in the daily lives of residents and are responsible for, among other things, nursery and primary schools, transport, sports and youth affairs, transport, housing, neighbourhood planning and various leisure services – all things that have a direct impact on people's quality of life, including that of young people and immigrants. When we vote, we strengthen our voice in decision-making and help local authorities make decisions that reflect the real needs and expectations of their residents.

Absentee voting began on 17 April 2026. If voters are unable to vote on election day, it is possible to vote by post, at the county clerk's office, or from abroad. More information here
