  1. General presentations

    • 1001125 – Cultural Grants 2010

      Drafts of amended rules for cultural grants were presented.  The rules were reviewed and approved with the amendments made. It was decided to extend the deadline for submitting applications for cultural grants until 1 March. No grants will be awarded for a period longer than one year at this time.  The Culture and Tourism Committee refers the newly adopted regulations on cultural grants to the Family Council, regarding a request for an opinion from 28 January 2009 concerning the assessment of applications, advertisements and forms.;

    • 0908117 – Hafnarfjörður Theatre.

      A letter from Hilmar Jónsson, Director of the Hafnarfjörður Theatre, which was received by the Mayor on 16 December, was presented.

      Referring to the letter from the theatre director, the Culture and Tourism Committee instructs the cultural and tourism officer to finalise the extension of the agreement for the use of the premises at 50 Strandgata until 30 June 2010. 

      It was decided to advertise for interested parties to partner in the operation of the theatre at 50 Strandgata for the next three years, from autumn 2010.

  • 0911235 – The Museum of Local History, an introduction to its activities

    Björn Pétursson attended the meeting and presented a memorandum with a proposal for charging service groups for visiting the Folk Museum outside opening hours.

    The committee has agreed to introduce an admission fee, but only for visitors who visit the museum in organised groups outside its office and service hours. This does not apply to school groups.  The opening fee will be kr. 12,500 plus kr. 300 per person for groups.  The proposal was referred to the Family Council for approval. Björn reported on the main projects and exhibitions of the Folk Museum.;

  • 1001282 – An idea for a city centre atmosphere in Hafnarfjörður in the summer of 2010

    An email from Gallery Grýlu about a craft market on Thorsplan was presented.

    The letter requests that Hafnarfjörður Municipality run a summer market on Thorsplan this summer. The committee welcomes the request and instructs the cultural and tourism officer to pursue the matter.;

  • 1002838 – Market on Strandgata, application

    A proposal has been submitted by Jón Hlíðari on behalf of Hlið Ltd., requesting to run a market in the centre of Hafnarfjörður and to borrow the town's sales pavilion for the purpose.

    The committee welcomes the proposal and instructs the representative for culture and tourism to pursue the matter.;

  • 1001281 – Cruise ships, arrivals in 2010

    A list from the Port of Hafnarfjörður has been submitted. This summer, 11 cruise ship arrivals are scheduled for Hafnarfjörður.

    The committee welcomes the increase in cruise ships at the Port of Hafnarfjörður and expresses its satisfaction with the result.;

  • 0909039 – Öldutúnsskóli, grant applications

    A submission from Brynhildur Auðbjargardóttir, choir director, dated 23 January, was presented. The submission was referred from the Family Council to the committee.

    The committee points out that everyone is entitled to apply for a project grant to the Culture and Tourism Committee.;

  • Meetings with tourism companies in Hafnarfjörður.

    The minutes of the last meeting held at Íslandsvinir Ltd. on 27 January were presented.

  • 10022087 – A stop for tourists

    At a meeting held with the tourism industry in Hafnarfjörður on 27th January, it was requested that the town council investigate whether an information board could be erected at the side of the Reykjanesbraut.

    The Culture and Tourism Committee requests that the Planning and Building Council investigates the possibility of establishing a tourist stop with information about the City of Hafnarfjörður, in cooperation with the Road Administration, opposite Straumur.;
