    • 0709057 – Hjalli School, a primary school on Hjallabraut

The head of department reported on the situation regarding parents' application for Year 4 to be held there next school year.

The Director of the Department presented a draft agreement between the Parents“ Association of the Hjallastefnan Primary School and the Department of Education, with the approval of Hjallastefnan Ltd. that the draft was consistent with the agreement previously made between Hjallastefnan and the parents“ association. The draft was referred to the other contracting parties for discussion. It was approved by three votes to one, with one abstention.

A representative of the Left-Green Party made the following note:

At the meeting, there was discussion and doubt as to whether the quality of the facilities provided for in the current agreement was acceptable. The education authorities are responsible for ensuring that premises, like other factors, are at least acceptable for staff and the children attending the school. The agreement also provides for a financial contribution from parents to bridge the cost gap required for the fourth-grade programme of the Hjallastefnan method at Hjallabraut to proceed. This represents a principle of school fees that I cannot accept, as it runs counter to the fundamental concept of equal opportunities for education.

For these reasons, the undersigned is not in a position to support the proposed draft agreement.

The Director of Education left the meeting at 9:35

  • 0905052 – Hjalli Nursery School - planning day

A letter has been submitted from the Hjalli Concept requesting that Hjalli Nursery School be granted an exemption from the City of Hafnarfjörður's planning day on 29 September. The nursery will be 20 years old on Friday, 25th September, and to mark the occasion, the Hjallastefnan plans to hold a conference for all of the organisation's schools. It is therefore requesting permission to hold its planning day on that date.

The Education Committee welcomes the proposal from the Hjalli School, subject to the approval of the school's parents' association.
