0908146 – Lækjarskóli, evaluation of the multidisciplinary track

A letter dated 16 June from the Ministry of Education was presented, together with a report on the findings of an evaluation of the multidisciplinary programme at Lækjarskóli.

The Education Council welcomes the review by the Ministry of Education and the positive assessment contained in the report. A letter from the Ministry states that following the review, it has been decided to establish a working group to explore ways of organising comparable services within the secondary schools in Hafnarfjörður.

An email from the Head of Psychology in the Education Department was presented regarding the advisory group's idea for child protection to enter into a partnership with Dale Carnegie, along with D.C.'s offer of a course for students.

The Education Committee refers the matter to the headteachers' meeting for discussion and comment.;

0908152 – Regulations on the design and equipment of primary school premises and school grounds

Regulation No. 657 on the design and equipment of primary school premises and school grounds, issued on 3 July 2009, was laid before the House.

The observer for primary school teachers left the meeting at. 9:25 a.m. The Chairman welcomes the nursery school observer to the new council year.;

Steinunn Þorsteinsdóttir, Information Officer, attended the meeting and reviewed the situation and the response plan for the influenza pandemic.

16 July 2009 – Icelandic children and the nation's economic crisis

A letter dated 28 July 2009 from the Executive Committee of UNICEF in Iceland, which addresses the rights and welfare of Icelandic children in optimisation measures, was presented.

The Education Committee thanks UNICEF for the letter and endorses its content regarding the welfare and rights of Icelandic children.

The observers for primary schools left the meeting at 9:45 a.m.
