General presentations

• 0911129 – An encouragement from the Teachers' Union of Iceland and the Association of Icelandic Municipalities to schools and municipalities regarding the application of recent research findings in school practice.

  A letter from the Icelandic Teachers' Association and the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities was presented, urging schools and local authorities to familiarise themselves with the results of TALIS, an international survey on the status and attitudes of teachers and school leaders, the McKinsey report on the characteristics of the world's best education systems and, more recently, a study on the state of reading instruction in primary schools, which was carried out by the Social Science Institute of the University of Iceland for the Ministry of Education.

• 0901064 – Laws and regulations, education department

  Regulations were laid before Parliament by the Ministry of Education and Culture concerning the content of education for nursery, primary and secondary school teachers, and amending Regulation No. 656/2009 on school transport.

• 0911133 – Hvammur planning day

  A letter from the headteacher of Hvamm preschool and a representative of the Hvamm parents' council was submitted, requesting permission to move the planning day from 18 November 2009 to 26 May 2010. The letter states that approval has been obtained from the preschool's parents' council.

• 0911134 – Álfaberg - planning day

  A letter was submitted from the managers of Álfabergs Nursery requesting to bring forward the nursery's planning day from 25 May 2010 to 14 May, due to a planned staff study and familiarisation trip to Akureyri. The approval of the nursery's parents' council is also submitted.

• 0911135 – Tjarnarás - planning days

  A letter from the head teacher of Tjarnaráss nursery was presented, requesting to take two consecutive planning days in the spring term, i.e. to hold the planning days on 20 and 21 May instead of 26 February and 25 May, for staff training and familiarisation. The consent of the nursery's parents' council is also submitted.

  The Education Council approves the application.;

• 0911136 – Bjarmi - rescheduling of planning days

  A letter was presented from the nursery school managers of Bjarma requesting to combine and postpone the spring term's planning days and to hold them consecutively in June 2010, due to a staff study and familiarisation trip to Boston from 15th to 20th June. The nursery's parents' council's consent is also submitted.

• 0909013 – Nursery schools, school curricula

  Ásta María Björnsdóttir, Headteacher at Hvammur, and Inga Líndal Finnbogadóttir, Headteacher at Álfasteinn, presented the schools' curricula.
