  • 0907038 – Fee schedules in the education sector

    A proposal was put forward regarding the income threshold for the additional nursery fee discount.

    The Education Committee proposes to the Town Council that:“The Hafnarfjörður Town Council agrees that the income threshold for the grant of a discount on the general nursery school fee, which is currently kr. 19,600 (excluding meals), shall be as follows:
    For a single parent with income under kr. 204,500 – 40 %, with income under 245,400 – 20 %.For cohabiting couples with an income under kr. 286,300 – 40%, with an income under 343,560 – 20%.A discount is also calculated on fees for attendance of more than eight hours. This decision will be reviewed in light of the experience gained from it, no later than the start of the next school year.
    The Education Committee approves the proposed proposal on income thresholds with three votes in favour; the representatives of the Independence Party abstain.

  • Staff discount in nurseries

    A letter dated 29 December 2010 from the Association of Nursery Teachers was presented, protesting the decision to abolish the nursery teachers' discount on nursery fees in Hafnarfjörður.

    Sameining leikskóla%0D%0DÍ fjárhagsáætlun var talað um að sameina leikskólann Kató nærliggjandi leikskóla

    The Education Committee submits the following proposal to the Town Council:“The Town Council agrees that, from 1 March 2011, the management of Kató Nursery School will be transferred to Smáralund Nursery School, while its operations will otherwise remain unchanged.  The posts of Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher at Kató will be abolished from the same time.“

    The proposal was approved with five unanimous votes.
    The representatives of the Independence Party wish to record:
    “When the operations of Kató Nursery School are merged with those of Smáralund Nursery School, it will be essential to maintain close and effective consultation with parents and staff, with the aim of ensuring a diverse and successful nursery service at both locations.  It will also be important to ensure that this change delivers the intended efficiencies.“ 

    The Education Committee concurs with the resolution.

  • 1101163 – Parents' Council for Preschool Children

    Comments were submitted by the Parents' Council of preschool children in Hafnarfjörður regarding the income-related supplementary discount on preschool fees, an increase in the daily care period beyond 8 hours, and an extension of the summer closure of preschools.

    The Education Committee agrees that additional time can be purchased in 15-minute increments instead of 30-minute increments.

    The nursery school observer representatives left the meeting at 10.40 a.m.

    The following minutes were proposed.

    “The Education Committee representatives of the Independence Party have previously stressed the importance of consultation with the management of the Hjallastefnan Primary School regarding the school's premises.  These matters were also discussed at the town council meeting on 12 January, where it was asked what communications had taken place regarding these matters.  It is therefore requested that the town councillors be provided with formal documentation of the communications, consultation and cooperation between the town authorities and the management and representatives of the Hjalli Primary School regarding changes to the school's premises and other arrangements.  This information is to be provided before the next council meeting.“
