• 0902148 – Óseyrarbraut 29, enquiry about plot enlargement

  To reconsider the request from Trefjar hf. regarding the possibility of a plot extension for 29 Óseyrarbraut, from the previous meeting.

  It was decided to meet with the parties concerned regarding the situation in the area.

• 0808158 – Óseyrarbraut 29, the Sewerage Tank

  The harbour master briefed the harbour board on his discussions with the neighbouring mediation tank.

• 0810183 – Development project, The Northern Sea Route

  A report by Price Waterhouse Coopers in Belgium and the Invest in Iceland Agency was presented, assessing Iceland's potential for participation in shipping and freight transport in the Arctic Ocean region. The Port of Hafnarfjörður participated in the survey, along with five other ports in Iceland, as well as the Maritime Administration and the Invest in Iceland Agency.

  The conclusion of the report's authors is that the feasibility of polar shipping is not as great as had been hoped. Particular attention is drawn to the high construction costs of ships that sail in icy waters. Conditions are changing rapidly with the increased melting of the ice cap and other key factors at play, so it is worth keeping a close eye on developments.

• 0702364 – 100th anniversary of the Port of Hafnarfjörður.

  The harbour master briefed the harbour board on the preparations for the anniversary celebrations, including from his meetings with representatives of the Hafnarfjörður Seamen's Union regarding the organisation of Seamen's Day in recent years, and with the curator of the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum regarding a photography exhibition from the harbour, featuring a walk along the harbour's promenade and in the folk museum.

• 0901055 – Driveway and mooring of the smaller floating quay

  A report from Strending ehf. was submitted concerning a causeway to, and the mooring of, the smaller floating quay of Vélsmiðja Orms and Víglundar ehf. to the shore.

• 0805037 – Harbour area, environmental issues

  The Harbour Master reported to the Harbour Board on the situation regarding tidying up and improved upkeep of the harbour area and on the harbour quays. A special task force from the Planning and Building Department, together with the public health officer, has recently been mapping the situation in areas other than the harbour area, but will shortly turn its attention to the harbour area.

  The Harbour Board places great emphasis on the tidying-up being completed by 15 May 2009 at the latest.
