Reykjavik Road: New cycle and pedestrian path
Work on a new and upgraded walking and cycling path west of Reykjavikurveg, from Hraunbrún to the municipal boundary with Garðabær, is proceeding according to plan and making good progress. Work has been carried out on earthworks and the laying of a new cycle path alongside the existing footpath in the green space between Reykjavikurvegur and the residential houses. The footpath will be upgraded alongside it.

Traffic system evolving into a modern and safer solution
The existing path, which has so far served both cyclists and pedestrians, will be doubled in size and the traffic separated. The project will thus contribute to increased safety and an improved experience for all who use sustainable transport. The cycle path has already been laid on part of the route, and the surfacing of the footpath is underway.

Cooperation and future property
The work is being carried out by Betri samgöngur in collaboration with the City of Hafnarfjörður. VSÓ ráðgjöf was responsible for the preliminary and detailed design. Upon completion of the works, the paths will be handed over to the City of Hafnarfjörður, which will own and manage their operation and maintenance in the future. Upon completion of the works, the network of paths will be connected to paths in Garðabær, thereby creating a continuous and safe route for pedestrians and cyclists between the neighbourhoods and municipalities.
