New edition of school calendars
A great deal of energy and enthusiasm for work characterised the group of students who came to work for the town this summer through the summer jobs initiative of Hafnarfjörður Municipality and the Employment Authority. Emphasis was placed, amongst other things, on utilising their skills for small and large projects that make a significant difference in the grand scheme of things and are designed to improve and facilitate the council's services and information provision.
A great deal of energy and enthusiasm for work characterised the group of students who came to work for the town this summer through the summer jobs initiative of Hafnarfjörður Municipality and the Employment Authority. An emphasis was placed, amongst other things, on utilising their talents on small and large projects that make a significant difference in the grand scheme of things and are designed to improve and facilitate the council's services and information provision. For example, a computer science student, hired for a summer job in web media, created a new version of the school calendars for Hafnarfjörður's primary schools.
School calendars are a popular topic.
Statistics on traffic to primary school websites show that school calendars are the most popular content, so it was decided to undertake the small but important task of converting the calendars into a more accessible format. This allows users (parents and guardians) to now easily download their primary school's calendar and import it into Outlook, iCalendar or Google Calendar. Previously, the calendars could only be downloaded as PDF documents on the schools' websites.
This small but important change and addition allows parents and guardians to always have the school calendar accessible on their phone and/or computer, thus reducing the risk of important dates such as holidays, staff training days or events being forgotten. It is being considered whether a similar solution can be developed for all of Hafnarfjörður's nurseries, which are hosted on a different content management system.
