The position of Director of the Finance Department for the City of Hafnarfjörður is now open for applications. We are seeking a strong leader to head the Finance Department and to continue to lead the important projects under its remit.
The Head of the Finance Department is responsible for the day-to-day financial management of the municipality and the management of the finance department. The department includes the economics department, accounting, treasury, procurement and payroll processing. The role of the Finance Department is to lead the budgeting process within the council, ensure cost-effective operations and procurement, and manage cash and debt management. as well as providing management with advice and the best possible overview of the finances and operations of the departments and the council as a whole.
Key responsibilities and duties:
- Manages and is responsible for the town's day-to-day financial management.
- Daily management and operation of the finance department
- Financial management and treasury management of the municipal fund
- Overseeing the preparation and monitoring of budgets
- Responsibility for accounting and settlements
- Oversight of the town's revenue sources
- Overseeing deviation analysis and providing advice within central government
- Manage loan administration and liaise with financial institutions.
- Ensures that management and the town council are kept informed of the progress and status of the town council's financial affairs, for example, through interim statements and reports.
- Other tasks as per the job description
Educational and competency requirements:
- A university degree that is relevant to the job, e.g. in business studies or economics.
- Further education applicable to the job, e.g. in finance and/or auditing.
- Extensive knowledge and experience of local government finance, management and planning.
- Strong ability in analysing and presenting numerical data
- Knowledge and experience of contract negotiation
- Proven experience in management and personnel management
- Leadership skills and excellent teamwork and communication skills
- Experience in strategy and change management is an advantage.
- Knowledge and experience of public administration is an advantage.
- Vision, ambition, initiative and organisational skills
- Ability to work under pressure
