Award for innovation

News

Our project was today recognised for innovation in public service and governance. Congratulations to everyone involved in this fantastic project.

The Innovation Awards in Public Service and Administration were presented for the fourth time today.  The awards are a joint project of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities, the Association of Heads of State Institutions, Rannís, the Icelandic Innovation Centre and the Institute of Public Administration and Politics at the University of Iceland.

Around 50 projects were nominated for this year's innovation awards. The City of Hafnarfjörður received an award for the Áfram project, which was launched in April 2014.

The project is primarily intended to improve the service for those who receive financial assistance from the local authority and to create opportunities for them.

Rannveig Einarsdóttir, Head of the Family Services Department, says the project has already yielded significant results.  „The financial benefit has been considerable, but above all, Áfram has created an opportunity for individuals receiving financial assistance from the local council to participate actively. Hopefully, Áfram can be a model for a new approach to social services, and this award encourages us to continue our good work and supports the work we have been building,„ says Rannveig.
