Older people
The aim is for older people in Hafnarfjörður to be able to live independently for as long as possible. Social activities, exercise and a variety of support are on offer. Servant leadership is kept in mind.
Council of Elders
The Elderly Council safeguards the interests of older people in Hafnarfjörður and provides advice to the town council.
The Council for the Elderly advises the municipal authorities and the city's institutions on matters concerning older people in the city. The council consults with organisations for older citizens in Hafnarfjörður and other people who work on their behalf.
The tasks of the Council of Elders are:
- Monitoring the welfare of older people in Hafnarfjörður.
- To make recommendations to the council on elderly care services.
- To provide advice on strategic decisions and policies concerning matters of older people.
- To ensure that older people receive the services they need and to introduce them to the options available.
The City Council nominates three representatives and two substitutes. One of them is the secretary of the council. The Association of Senior Citizens in Hafnarfjörður nominates three representatives and two substitutes. The Health Service in Hafnarfjörður nominates one and one substitute.
