Older people
The aim is for older people in Hafnarfjörður to be able to live independently for as long as possible. Social activities, exercise and a variety of support are on offer. Servant leadership is kept in mind.
Nursing home
In Hafnarfjörður, there are two nursing and residential homes: Sólvangur and Hrafnista.
Á Solvangi and Hrafnista Nursing and medical care is provided 24 hours a day. Physiotherapy and occupational therapy are offered. Residents are offered a healthy and nutritious diet, and also have the opportunity to take part in a variety of varied and rewarding activities. Both homes also offer day-dreaming.
Hrafnista
Hrafnista in Hafnarfjörður is the largest care home in the country. 199 people live at the home. The aim is to provide nursing and care tailored to the needs of each individual, to empower people to help themselves and to make it easier for them to adapt to changing circumstances. Great emphasis is placed on staff getting to know the residents, their background and life story.
Hrafnista offers a range of services, including pedicures, hairdressing, a shop, arts and crafts, and pastoral care. Social and cultural activities are available, and regular services and evenings of entertainment are held.
On the grounds of the home at Hraunvangur 1–3, there are 64 rental flats owned by Naustavara. Residents of the rental flats can access various services at Hrafnista.

Sólvangur
About 70 people live at the nursing home Sólvangur. The emphasis at Sólvangur is on creating a pleasant, homely atmosphere, and great importance is placed on maintaining good communication with the residents' families.
At Sólvang there is a workshop where there is always joy. There, songs are sung, readings take place and stories are told in which everyone takes part. Weekly activities include social events such as cinema, singing and exercise. Annually, a Þorrablót, bingo, Sólvang Day and a barbecue are held.
There is good cooperation with the local community and the town's institutions, Notable among these is the collaboration with the town's nursery and primary schools, with pupils regularly visiting Sólvang. These visits are very enjoyable and provide new experiences for the residents, while the pupils get to learn about the lives of the people at Sólvang.

If other services from the council, such as support services and day care, are not enough for you, you can apply for a place in a care home.
First, you need to Apply for a skills and health assessment. You fill in the application, scan it and send it by email to vistunarmat@heilsugaeslan.is or send by post to:

Once your application has been approved, you will receive a letter in the post with a list of care homes and an application form. You fill this in and send it back by email or by post.
