Seniors
The aim is for older people in Hafnarfjörður to be able to live independently for as long as possible. Social activities, exercise and a variety of support are on offer. Servant leadership is kept in mind.
Social life and health
Regular social activities and exercise can make all the difference when it comes to mental and physical health. In Hafnarfjörður, you can find a vibrant social scene and exercise opportunities for older people.
The City of Hafnarfjörður supports older people and provides them with various services, including the 'Brúkum bekki' project, where benches were placed at short intervals along all the main walking routes.
Leisure grants
Elderly citizens can receive a leisure allowance in the form of an income-related subsidy for sports and leisure activities, up to 4000 kr. per month. The allowance is applied for at Our pages. Also, senior citizens get free entry to all swimming pools of the town.
Janus Health Promotion
Hafnarfjörður is a proud partner Janus Health Promotion which works to improve the health and quality of life of older people.
Included in the training is:
- Resistance training once a week
- Strength training twice a week
- Regular measurements
- Information sessions
- Closed Facebook group
- Access to a health app
Janus Health Promotion is located in the St. Jó. Centre for Well-being. Application for on the Janus website. A leisure grant can be used to subsidise the fee.

At 33 Hjallabraut, you can find various services for senior citizens:
- Hair salon. Orders on 565 3680.
- Aesthetic and Podiatric Surgeon. Orders by phone: 866 6015.
- Canteen.
1 Sólvangsvegur
- Shopping trips. Leave from Sólvangsvegur 1 for Bónus every Tuesday at 2 p.m.
- Canteen.
Day care
You can apply day-dreaming at Hrafnista, Sólvangur or in Drafnarhúsi (for people with dementia). Social activities and respite are offered there.
Support for bereaved people
The Bereavement Centre supports bereaved people and all those who work for their well-being. There, you can attend various educational talks, join a support group, take part in deep relaxation, drop-in sessions, or attend courses. The Bereavement Centre is open to everyone.

Association of Senior Citizens in Hafnarfjörður (FEBH) is for all residents of Hafnarfjörður, aged 60 and over. The association runs a vibrant social programme. The annual subscription is 3,000 krónur, free for those aged 90 and over.
To contact FEBH, you can send an email to febh@febh.is or call 555 0142. The chairperson holds consultation hours on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2–4 pm and on Thursdays from 10 am–12 pm.

Youth Centre Hraunsel
The community centre Hraunsel, Flatahrauni 3, is open to everyone aged 60 and over. The activities are run by FEBH. It is open on weekdays from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Hraunseli offers, among other things:
- coffee and newspapers
- bridge and whist
- Bingo
- aerobics and line dancing
- Chair yoga and qi gong
- Darts and billiards
- book club
- choir
- dances
Further courses are advertised separately.
Outdoor activities
FEBH also has a programme outdoors:
- Walks from Kaplakripi every weekday from 8 am to 12 pm.
- Walk from the Haukahús on Monday mornings at 10 a.m.
- Putting at Hraunkot on Wednesdays at 10 a.m.
- Aqua aerobics at Ásvallalaug on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 14:50.
