Bridge builders
Bridge builders
Bridge Builders are cultural liaisons working on behalf of the Education and Public Health Department of Hafnarfjörður. Their role is to build bridges between cultures, promote cultural awareness and support successful collaboration between schools and families.
Bridge-builders work at all stages of schooling; in nurseries, primary schools and in connection with leisure and sports activities.
The role of bridge builders
Bridge-builders use their own experience of two cultures and languages to support children, parents and school staff. They:

Explain the rules, expectations and school culture

Building bridges between home and school
The support is based on warmth, respect and a practical approach, and is always adapted to the circumstances, language and cultural background of each family.
Support and service
Bridge builders offer:

Interviews with parents and staff

Support in parent-teacher meetings and at parents' evenings

Assistance with applications for leisure and sports activities

Support for the use of systems such as Valu, Mentor and Abler
