Six grants from the House Preservation Fund
The Culture and Tourism Committee of the City of Hafnarfjörður recently awarded six grants from the Húsvörðasjóður fund. The grants are for maintenance and renovation and totalled two million krónur. The purpose of the fund is to promote the preservation and maintenance of older houses in Hafnarfjörður.
The Cultural and Tourism Committee of the City of Hafnarfjörður recently awarded six grants from the Húsvörðasjóður fund at a festive ceremony in Hafnarborg. The grants are for maintenance and refurbishment. The total amounted to two million króna. The fund's purpose is to promote the preservation and maintenance of older houses in Hafnarfjörður, and the grants are awarded for maintenance and renovation.
The Culture and Tourism Committee approves funding for the following projects:
- Árni Stefán Árnason, Austurgata 10, 400,000 kr.
- Kristinn Kristinsson, Merkurgata 2, 300,000 kr.
- Eiríkur Gauti Kristjánsson, Strandgata 49, 100,000 kr.
- The Free Church congregation, 6 Linnet Street, 500,000 kr.
- Vilmar Breki Jóhannsson, Brattakinn 5, 500,000 kr.
- Maria Birna Jónsdóttir, Norðurbraut 27b, 200,000 kr.
House Preservation Fund – grants for the maintenance and renovation of older houses
The City of Hafnarfjörður advertised for applications for grants from the Hafnarfjörður Building Preservation Fund, and the application deadline was 28 February. The fund's purpose is to promote the preservation and maintenance of older buildings in Hafnarfjörður, and it provides grants for maintenance and renovation. The fund is also authorised to provide grants for the maintenance and preservation of other structures in the town that have cultural, historical, or artistic value, provided that the works are in accordance with the building's original architectural style and the principles of conservation.
Assessment of applications
The Cultural and Tourist Affairs Committee of Hafnarfjörður awards grants from the house preservation fund, following a report from the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum. Applications are assessed in terms of their preservation value, for example, due to architecture, cultural history, setting, authenticity and technical condition, as well as their value for the preservation of Hafnarfjörður's architectural heritage. Priority is given to funding works that restore the external appearance of buildings, such as windows and cladding, to its original state.
