Sports theme for Áslandsskóli's Culture Days

Singing and instrumental music echoed through the corridors of Áslandsskóli during the school's annual cultural festival. The cultural days have been held since the school first opened. The tradition is a fun one, and there is great anticipation among both pupils and staff for all the preparation and work involved.

The 3rd form's production of the musical Grease was a huge hit at the Áslandsskóli Cultural Days awards ceremony yesterday, Thursday 21st March. The audience applauded and held up their phones to capture the pupils' brilliant performance. There was a packed entertainment programme. Year 2 pupils sang a song. A Year 7 pupil played the piano while other pupils from the same year danced. The day was filled with the sound of the flute, dancing and guitar, and the Year 10 pupils set up their renowned café, Sportás, as part of a fundraiser. The smell of waffles filled the school.

The school decorated with works of art

The school was like a single work of art, and the theme for this year's Culture Days at Árlandsskóli was SPORT. Students used the week leading up to the cultural festival for preparations. Everywhere you looked, you could see the students' handiwork, with sport playing the starring role.

You could walk through the Olympic Village, attend the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics this summer and see the Olympic flame. You could learn about various sports clubs from abroad and see a life-sized drawing of the world-famous athletes Lebron James and Simone Biles.

Cultural Days adorn the community in Ásland

Cultural Days in Áslandsskóli It has been an annual event since its inception, apart from a change of format during the pandemic. The tradition is great fun and is much looked forward to by both students and staff during all the preparation and work. The preparations take three days before the harvest.

The Culture Days have added a fun atmosphere to school life and the entire community in Ásland. A large number of guests came to celebrate with the pupils and staff. The Chair of the Education Committee and the Director of the Education and Public Health Department were among the guests.
