On Saturday, 14th February, Schools of Music Day will be celebrated in almost all music schools in the country. At the Hafnarfjörður Music School, there has been a long-standing tradition of a programme in the school on this day.
Pupils in Pre-School II are to arrive with their parents at 10:00 in the Great Hall, where the school's teachers will be giving an instrument introduction, as most pupils in Pre-School II will be starting an instrument next winter.
Following the presentation in the Great Hall, pupils and parents will be invited to visit the classrooms in the school, where the teachers will be on hand to tell them more about the instruments and instrumental tuition.
Concert performances will then take place throughout the day at the Music School. On the school's Torg, there will be concerts at 13:15, 14:15 and 15:15, and in Hásölum at 13:30 and 14:30.
As usual, a large number of guests have come to the Music School on this day, and there is always a great atmosphere in the school.
Day of the Music Schools in Tónkvísl.
The programme at Tónkvísl begins at 1 pm when teachers open their classrooms and will feature live music, instrumental playing and singing, as well as sharing a wealth of knowledge with students and parents who come to visit.
The day's concerts begin in the Hallsteinsal at 14:00. Special guests at Tónkvísl will be drummer Guðmundur Steingrímsson and jazz pianist Ástvaldur Traustason, who will be joined by students from the Rhythmic Department of the Kópavogur Music School. The Tónkvísl ensembles then play one after the other with their usual brilliance, with or without drummer Guðmundur, who is one of the pioneers of jazz music in Iceland. The programme in Tónkvísl concludes at 15:30.
