It was a hive of activity at Hraunvallar School as the children welcomed the Mayor, Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, who was celebrating Children's Day with them. Hraunvallaskóli was established in 2008. It is located at Drekavellir 9 and employs 40 staff for over 100 children. The school is unique in that it operates both a nursery and a primary school. Children can therefore attend the school from the age of 16 months until they are sixteen years old.. Six nursery units are within the school. and he operates according to the philosophy of the open school. The building is designed with this in mind, and the school's values are friendship, cooperation and responsibility. Guðbjörg Hjaltadóttir, the nursery head teacher, and the nursery staff welcomed the mayor, Jennýju Dagbjörtu Gunnarsdóttur, development officer for nurseries, and Árnýju Steindóru Steindórsdóttur, head of nursery affairs, on this day dedicated to the nurseries. A tradition has developed in nurseries in Hafnarfjörður and across the country of celebrating the day in a variety of ways.

But why the 6th of February? Well, on this day in 1950, the pioneers of nursery schools founded their first association. The day is celebrated throughout the country to raise awareness of the nursery school stage, its importance, and the fantastic work that takes place in the schools. The aim of 6 February is to promote a positive discussion about nursery education and, at the same time, to draw the community's attention to the professional and ambitious work carried out in the country's nurseries every day. • The nursery is in the same building as Hraunvallaskóli and therefore benefits from collaboration with it. The oldest children regularly visit Year 1 during the winter. Every day, they eat in the primary school's canteen alongside the youngest pupils, which creates a pleasant, shared atmosphere. 
• The school library always welcomes nursery school groups, and the sports hall is available to them weekly, and also when the primary school is closed.
