Hafnarfjörður was among those who gave the association a magnificent gift to mark the occasion of its 50th anniversary, on 19 April 1975.

Hafnarfjörður was among those who gave the association a magnificent gift to mark the occasion of its 50th anniversary, on 19 April 1975.
Members and supporters of Þyt reminisced about the good times of past years and gave thanks for the support and the journey to the present day. At the same time, members and the board gratefully received generous gifts, enjoying good food and company at the half-century celebration.

The founder of Þyt wholeheartedly agreed and, in their address, remembered those who had passed away but had played a key role in the society's founding and running. At the conclusion of the speeches, a beautiful moment was created when they became the first person to be honoured with the society's honorary award. After all, the association would not have become a reality were it not for his tireless efforts from the very beginning.
A comprehensive sailing club for all age groups
„The Þytur Sailing Club was founded on 19 April 1975 by a number of Hafnarfjörður enthusiasts of sailing. The background to the club's formation was that in 1971, a sea scout club run by the Hraunbúar Scout Association had started up, and at the same time, the Hafnarfjörður youth council launched a sailing club for young people. These clubs continued to operate and later became the nucleus of the Þyt Sailing Club, a general-purpose sailing club for all age groups.“
