Sweet harbinger of spring – street sweeping has begun
Spring sweeping of streets, pavements and footpaths in Hafnarfjörður has begun. This is unusually early this year and is being driven by the fine weather of recent days. The emphasis is initially on sweeping main routes, and today Reykjavikurvegur and Hjallabraut were among those swept. The progress of the spring sweeping will continue to be dictated by the weather in the coming days and weeks.

Zonal redistribution of suction
A specific work plan is followed, which involves sweeping all neighbourhoods between 2 April and 2 May. Signs will be put up in each neighbourhood the day before sweeping is due to take place, and residents will also be sent a text message to inform them that their neighbourhood is scheduled to be swept. Residents are kindly requested to take an active part to ensure the best possible results. It is essential that the streets are clear of cars on the day the sweeping takes place, so that the kerb edges can be swept. Residents and business staff can take the opportunity to sweep around their own premises. This will make the area look much tidier overall. Once the street sweeping is complete, high-pressure washing, sweeping of main roads and major collector roads, and the cleaning of central reservations will begin. A work schedule is set out, subject to change, primarily due to weather (frost) and delays with the contractor responsible for the sweeping.
