Happiness in Hafnarfjörður at the weekend

A pleasant atmosphere of culture and happiness will be in the air in Hafnarfjörður this weekend. You can enjoy deep relaxation in Hellisgerði, view art at the Litla Gallerý, and spend Sunday at Hafnarborg, where light, space and Icelandic art will be the main focus.

• Saturday 12 September Happy Yoga Nidra in Hellisgerði at 12 o'clock, in the clearing by Skúlaskeið.
• Sunday, 13 September To be – Guðnýja Magnúsdóttir's exhibition in LitlaGallerý. This is therefore Last weekend of the show.
• Sunday, 13 September SThe Passion: 11:28–15:32 _ 26.09.13 at Hafnarborg. The museum opens specially at 11:28 due to a work by Daníel Ágúst Ágústsson.
• Sunday 13 September at 2 pm Art historian Aðalsteinn Ingólfsson guides visitors through Aurora Borealis, an exhibition by Frost Fjalar, at Hafnarborg.

Happy Yoga Nidra in Hellisgerði

The Happiness Days continue. On Saturday at 12 noon, there will be a session of Happiness Yoga Nidra in the clearing by Skúlaskeið in Hellisgerði.

Kristjana Jökumsen from Mind in the heart Leads participants through Yoga Nidra, a deep relaxation designed to help the body and mind release tension, reduce stress and renew energy. No yoga experience is necessary and all are welcome.

• It is a good idea to wear comfortable clothes and bring a mattress, pillow and blanket.

Guðný's final exhibition weekend at the Little Gallery

This weekend is the last chance to see Guðnýja Magnúsdóttir's solo exhibition., To be, in the Little Gallery.

In her work, Guðný explores the body as a living record of memories, experiences and transformations. She considers, among other things, the relationship between body and soul, identity, intuition and what it means to be human. She works with a variety of materials such as handmade paper, porcelain, metal, cocoa, found fabric and organic forms, seeking a balance between vulnerability and strength.

• To be is Guðný's second solo exhibition and her first since completing her BA (Hons) in Fine Art from the University of Cumbria.

The sunlight will become part of the artwork.

The harbour opens unusually early on Sunday, at exactly 11:28, because of a work by Daníel Ágúst Ágústsson. 11:28–15:32 _ 26/09/13, which is part of the museum's autumn exhibition, the margin.

The work is based on the sunlight streaming in through the circular window in the gable of Hafnarborg. Daníel has traced the path of the light through the exhibition space on this particular day, 13th September, from 11:28 to 15:32. Visitors can therefore observe the light moving through the space and experience the interplay between the artwork, the light and the building.

• The artist will be present, giving visitors the opportunity to talk to them and experience the work in the moment it refers to. Admission is free.

Aurora Borealis tour led by Adalsteinn Ingólfsson

On the same day, Sunday 13 September at 2 pm, art historian Aðalsteinn Ingólfsson will guide visitors around the exhibition. Aurora Borealis at Hafnarborg and discusses the work of Frost Fjalar, his career and his position in Icelandic art.

Frosti Fjalar, formerly Jakob Jónsson, had an artistic career spanning more than half a century. After an active period of exhibitions in the 1970s and 1980s, he withdrew from public life but continued to create with great vigour. He left behind around six thousand watercolours and about eight hundred paintings. His work is characterised by, among other things, a sensitive sense of form, disciplined composition and a strong awareness of colour.

• Curator Aurora Borealis is Ásdís Spanó. Admission to the tour is free and everyone is welcome.
