Total Solar Eclipse – The Hammer and Our Love Lake Area
The Hammer and Ástjörn at Ásvellir will be the places to gather for the solar eclipse on 12th August. The Municipality of Hafnarfjörður is giving all its children aged 17 and under solar eclipse glasses. They can be collected from the town's museums and the customer service centre.
The darkness is wonderful in Hafnarfjörður
A total solar eclipse will be visible in Iceland on Wednesday, 12th August. This will be the first time a total eclipse has been visible in the capital region since 1433. The previous one was in 1330!
Children in Hafnarfjörður, aged 17 and under, can collect solar eclipse glasses from the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum, Hafnarborg, and the town's service centre at Strandgata 8-10. The total eclipse will be visible for up to 68 seconds here in Hafnarfjörður. We suggest Hamarinn and Ástjörn as the best places to gather. We also point out that the singer Björk will be in Víðistaðatún for the festival. Echolalia along with Smekkleysa. There will be over six thousand people gathered there.

Increased traffic is expected in the capital region as many people make their way to popular viewpoints.
