A multilingual storytelling workshop awaits families at Hafnarborg on Sunday, and laughter and music will fill Bæjarbíó over the weekend of 9–11 October.
Let's tell stories together
What happens on a dreamlike day in the life of a character you create yourself? On Sunday 11 October from 1 pm to 3 pm, Hafnarborg and GETA invite children and adults to create together in a multilingual storytelling workshop.
Participants create puppet characters, write short stories and bring them to life with shadow theatre. Tess Rivarola and Anne Rombach lead the workshop in Icelandic, Spanish, English and German. Families are especially encouraged to use their mother tongues in the storytelling.
The workshop is open to all age groups and no previous art experience is necessary. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Participation is free of charge.
Free art and a journey into the past
It is ideal to take the opportunity of your visit to Hafnarborg to see the two exhibitions currently on display. The Autumn Exhibition The prophecy focuses attention on the nooks, crannies and possibilities of the exhibition space. In Sverrissal is Aurora Borealis, an exhibition of works by Frost Fjalarr, where colour, form and rhythm take centre stage. Hafnarborg is open from 12–17 all weekend and admission is free.
The story of the town awaits at the Folk Museum. The warehouse, The Sívertsen House and Boutique are open from 11 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday. There you can see toys from a bygone era, learn about life in the oldest house in Hafnarfjörður and look inside an old shop. The exhibition is also on display in the Packhouse. Let's go for a swim
A trip to the swimming pool with the family or friends is always a great weekend idea. The swimming pools in Hafnarfjörður are free for children aged 17 and under, and for people aged 67 and over.
- Ásvallalaug and Suðurbæjarlaug are open from 8 am to 6 pm on Saturday. On Sunday, Ásvallalaug is open from 8 am to 5 pm, and Suðurbæjarlaug from 8 am to 9 pm.
- Please note that the Hafnarfjörður Swimming Pool is open from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, but is closed on Saturday and Sunday.
Anime and the last weekend of screenings
Anime fans aged 14–16 are meeting at Hafnarfjörður Library on Saturday, 10th October from 3–5 pm. There, they will watch, read, play and create under the guidance of Jonina „KleineKonan“ Strumann. The Firði Library is open from 11 am to 5 pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
This is also the last weekend to see the exhibition. Sketches by Sigurjón Má Svanbergsson in Little Gallery. The town's houses are brought to life on paper with free-flowing lines and colours. The exhibition ends on Sunday, 11th October.
Laughter at Bæjarbíó
Björk Jakobs, Salka Sól and Selma Björns are taking to the stage at Bæjarbíó on Friday, 9th October at 7 p.m. with the show Just wait – it'll sort itself out. Sketches, stand-up comedy and original songs are mixed with stories from life.
Confirmation anniversary on Sunday
A confirmation anniversary service will be held on Sunday, 11th October at 11 a.m. in Hafnarfjörður Church. Fiftieth, sixtieth, seventieth and seventy-fifth wedding anniversaries will be celebrated, and Cantus, the church choir, will sing. After the service, there will be a lunch where Ingvar Viktorsson will share stories and memories. Booking is essential for the lunch by calling 520 5700.
