In the summer, the Hafnarfjörður Work Club is the largest workplace in the town. Working at the school offers a unique opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and help to beautify the town's landscape in collaboration with young people. We are recruiting staff for summer jobs as group leaders for the general groups of the Work School, which operate from Hafnarfjörður's primary schools.
Key responsibilities and duties
- Managing the work of the youth work team and being a role model for young people.
- Guide students on working methods and procedures.
- Working with constructive communication and creating a team spirit within the student group.
- Submission of student timekeeping and performance assessments
- Other duties as described in the job description
Competency requirements
- An interest in working with young people and a willingness to take on a variety of tasks.
- Communication skills and the ability to be a good role model for students
- Knowledge of the work of a summer scheme or other experience of working with children or teenagers is an advantage.
- Experience in gardening and related maintenance is an advantage.
- A clean criminal record in accordance with the laws and regulations of the City of Hafnarfjörður.
- Applicants must be 20 years of age.
- Good knowledge of Icelandic and English, B2 level. Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

- Category managers start work on 4 June
- The salary is in accordance with the collective agreement of the Federation of Icelandic Municipalities and the Hlíf trade union.
- Group leaders of general primary school groups at the Hafnafjörður Summer School can work for a maximum of 300 hours.
- The working week for staff in Hafnarfjörður is 36 hours.
