Öldutúnsskóli is looking for a Middle School Head of Year
The Council is in office from 1 August 2026.
At Öldutúnsskóli, around 590 pupils study in Years 1–10. The school emphasises a professional and constructive learning environment where a targeted effort is made to foster pupils' interest in their studies and promote their success. A strong emphasis is also placed on a good working atmosphere, varied teaching methods, strong teamwork within year groups and targeted team teaching.
The school's motto is Respect, Engagement and Well-being, and it is reflected in all of the school's work. The work is based, among other things, on the SMT philosophy of positive school behaviour and the Olweus programme against bullying and antisocial behaviour. Furthermore, environmental issues are emphasised in the school's daily work.
Key responsibilities and duties:
- Lead the middle phase and oversee projects within the teaching phase.
- Working on the development of school operations in collaboration with management and colleagues.
- Leading the work of academic assessment and other related tasks
- Addressing student behavioural problems at the teaching level
- To take part in the ongoing development and shaping of the school's work.
- Promote the welfare of students in collaboration with parents and other professionals.
- Work in accordance with the school's policy
- Working to create a good atmosphere in the school and ensuring the safety and well-being of pupils and staff.
- Other tasks in accordance with the job description
Educational and competency requirements:
- Teaching licence (to be included with the application)
- Further education in management and/or education or pedagogy is an advantage.
- Successful teaching and management experience in a primary school.
- A solid knowledge of middle-grade pedagogy
- Extensive knowledge and experience of a wide variety of assessment methods.
- A solid knowledge of Mentor
- Proficiency in a variety of teaching methods, learning adaptation and integration
- Knowledge and experience of SMT is an advantage.
- Initiative and autonomy in work methods
- Leadership skills and the ability to lead progressive school development.
- Positivity and an interest in working in a creative and ambitious environment
- Agility in communication, flexibility and cooperativeness
- Very good Icelandic skills, at a minimum of C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
