Hafnarfjörður is seeking a strong and ambitious Human Resources Team Manager for a full-time position.  The role reports to the Head of Human Resources and does not involve line management. The team leader has project-based supervision.  

This is a varied role with challenging tasks, where initiative, independence and organisational skills are required.

The HR Team Leader is part of the HR team, which provides advice and training to the managers and staff of the City of Hafnarfjörður, among other things. The HR team is ambitious when it comes to moving forward, implementing innovations, simplifying processes and making services for managers and staff more efficient and better. Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Participates in the planning, development and strategic work of human resources.
  • Support, advice and training for managers regarding personnel matters
  • Interpretation, advice and implementation of collective agreements and legislation, particularly in the field of employment law.
  • Provides training for managers on human resources matters and promotes targeted training that supports the operations of the town's departments.
  • Various information provision and processing related to employees' terms and conditions and rights.  
  • Monitors the implementation of human resources matters and makes recommendations for improvements where appropriate.
  • Project management and participation in working groups on human resources matters, both within and outside the town.
  • Takes the initiative in developing and innovating in human resources.

Educational and competency requirements:

  • University education (B.A./B.S) which is relevant to the role.
  • Postgraduate degree (M.Sc. / M.A.) which is relevant to the role, e.g. in the field of human resource management.
  • Proven experience in HR and management consultancy, a minimum of 5 years.
  • Experience in interpreting collective agreements
  • Experience of public sector recruitment
  • Knowledge and experience in resolving disputes 
  • Knowledge and experience of public administration
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Initiative, independence and organisational skills
  • Good command of Icelandic and English

Human Resources and Payroll Department has professional leadership and overseeing human resources– and wagesMatters of the City of Hafnarfjörður.  Liability for  strategic planning, oversight and follow-up of the implementation of human resources matters, labour relations, jCases concerning the right to abortiona and Interpretation of collective agreements and employment law 

Salary is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and BHM.
