Hraunvallaskóli is looking to hire a Children's Wellbeing Coordinator for the 2026-2027 academic year. 

The appointment will commence on 1 August and is for a fixed term of one year. The appointment is for 50%, but there is the possibility of an increase in hours through other roles within the school, such as teaching.

Hraunvallar School is unique in that both a nursery and a primary school are run within its walls. The school operates according to the philosophy of the open school, and the building was designed with this in mind. The curriculum places an emphasis on a structure based on group work, thematic learning, individual work, problem-solving, critical thinking, and students' ability to acquire knowledge and utilise the latest information and communication technology to do so. Teachers work together in teams during lessons and in the planning and preparation of teaching. Pupils in the same year group are in common tutor groups with a shared form tutor in their home areas. The aim of the role of the child welfare liaison in nurseries and primary schools is to ensure that pupils and parents who need it have ready access to appropriate, integrated services. 

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Provide parents and students who need it with information about integrated well-being services. 
  • Organise, coordinate and follow up on first-line integration services following the initial assessment. 
  • To assess and/or consult on the need for second or third-tier services and thereby appoint a case manager. 
  • Promote the participation of parents and students in decision-making and resources 
  • Collaboration and training for school governors, teachers and other school staff 
  • Other duties as described in the job description 

Educational and competency requirements:

  • Teaching qualification/regulated professional qualification in a healthcare profession or comparable education relevant to working with children and families. 
  • Postgraduate studies in child welfare are an advantage. 
  • Substantial experience of working with children and, where appropriate, their families. 
  • Knowledge of project management is an advantage. 
  • Knowledge of early and practical tools to support students 
  • Skills in Consultation in Interdisciplinary Collaboration 
  • Interpersonal skills and a positive attitude 
  • Good knowledge of Icelandic and English, or C1, according to European language framework

A clean criminal record is required upon employment.
