Agreement on travel services for visually impaired residents of Hafnarfjörður
The City of Hafnarfjörður and the Blindrafélagið have entered into a service agreement under which the Blindrafélagið will provide travel services for the residents of Hafnarfjörður. This agreement represents a major step forward in the City of Hafnarfjörður's service provision for its legally blind residents.
Hafnarfjörður municipality and The Blind Association have entered into a service agreement which involves the Blind Association taking on the responsibility of providing a travel service for residents of Hafnarfjörður who are diagnosed as legally blind by the Service and Knowledge Centre for the Blind, visually impaired and deafblind individuals who are unable to use public transport due to their disability. With this agreement, the City of Hafnarfjörður takes a major step forward in its services for legally blind residents of the town.
The Blind Society's Travel Service is a service provision that uses taxis to ensure a high standard of service, while also providing a cost-effective and efficient solution for the local authority. Agreements are made with local authorities, in accordance with the current legislation on services for disabled people with long-term support needs, are responsible for ensuring that disabled people have access to the necessary support services for their inclusion in society on an equal basis with others, thereby preventing their social isolation. The service area of the transport service is Hafnarfjörður, Garðabær, Kópavogur, Reykjavík, Seltjarnarnes and Mosfellsbær.
Applications for travel services and registration of journeys
New applicants apply for access to the Blind Association's travel service to the Family and Children's Services Department of Hafnarfjörður via My pages á www.hafnarfjordur.is which deals with the application in accordance with the applicable regulations on travel services for disabled persons
of people. A journey is defined in these rules as travel from A to B within
service area. The Blind Association proposes electronic maps for each user to
for use in the taxis that drivers use to log each journey. Basic cost-sharing
The user is subject to the applicable cash fare on Strætó at any given time.
