Tuk-tuk in the library's service
This summer, the tuk-tuk will be providing story time at nurseries and play schemes, and delivering books in the town's neighbourhood.
At a meeting of the Culture and Tourism Committee of Hafnarfjörður on Wednesday, 10 June, the Hafnarfjörður Library was entrusted with the management of a so-called tuk-tuk, an electric vehicle intended to bring the library closer to the people of Hafnarfjörður this summer.

The purchase of the TukTuk was intended primarily as an additional service for tourists, acting as a mobile tourist information centre in the coming years. The idea is to be able to get to the main events in town over the summer and to places where tourists are expected, for example, upon the arrival of cruise ships. The vehicle will carry leaflets, maps and a wheel of fortune that visitors can spin to find an interesting place to visit in Hafnarfjörður.
In light of the current situation, however, the vehicle will be assigned a different role for the time being and will be used for the services of the Hafnarfjörður Library, among other things to provide story times at nurseries and play schemes, visits to youth work and book deliveries to book exchange markets, which are planned to be set up in the town's neighbourhoods this summer. The focus will be on the outer areas of the town, with the aim of bringing the children's library services to those who cannot so easily access the library's offerings, and of bringing specialised children's services closer to their homes. The tuk-tuk will also be used in some capacity for the town's creative summer activities this summer, and ideas from residents and staff on how they would like to see it used are welcome.
It was Mayor Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir who delivered the first books around the town centre, under the watchful eye of Hugrún Margrét Óladóttir, Head of the Children's and Young People's Department at the library, and Elvira Gígja, one of the project's staff members this summer.
