Celebrate Iceland's National Day with us in Hafnarfjörður – Programme in English
Flags lowered
Flag-raising on the Rock at 8 a.m. and the Hraunbúar Scout Group flies the flag throughout the town.
Parade from Hraunbyrgi
The walk starts from Hraunbyrgi on Hjallabraut at 1 pm, down Hjallabraut and along Vesturgata to Strandgata, up Mjósund, along Austurgata to Skólabraut, and finishes at the Learning Centre by the stream.
Before the walk, people in national costume can gather at Hraunbyrgi. Annríki – National Costumes and Jewellery will be on site to help anyone who might need assistance getting dressed from 12 noon.
At the Learning Centre by the Stream, the Hafnarfjörður Brass Band will play a few tunes at the end of the parade, at around 2 p.m.

The sports hall on Strandgata
Badminton Association of Hafnarfjörður invites visitors to the Sports Hall on Strandgata from 1 pm to 5 pm. You will be able to play badminton and table tennis both indoors and outdoors, take part in a fun obstacle course, join a drawing competition, do some colouring, jump on the trampoline and take photos in the photo booth. There will also be steaming hot waffles, freshly baked chocolate cakes and coffee available at the BH café.
Hafnarfjörður Library
Hafnarfjörður Library will be in a festive mood and will celebrate the day with a variety of entertainment from 12 o'clock.
- Coffee and doughnuts for the occasion.
- The Skating of the Valkyrie at 12:45. Hildur Rosenkjær from Annríki, the National Costume Institute, skates as the Valkyrie of Hafnarfjörður and discusses the history and meaning of the headdresses of women's festive costumes.
- Accordion ball on the Town Hall Square at 1 p.m. Toys and crayons for the children, and bouncy castles for the little ones.
- Outdoor concert at 3 p.m. The band Fjara and musician Birgir Hansen.
Port city, cultural and artistic centre
Open at Port city 12 – 17.
- Pianist Benjamín Gísli Einarsson performs Icelandic folk songs in Benjamín's arrangements in the Main Hall of Hafnarborg at 2 p.m.
- Curator's tour of the exhibition Rhythm with works by Guðmundur Andrésson in the main hall at 3 p.m. and the exhibition Discotheque with works by Arnfinn Amazeen in Sverris Hall.
- A concert with Friðrik Dór and Viktoria Tomasdottir, winners of the Samfés singing competition, at Hafnarborg/Krydd at 4 p.m.
Hafnarfjörður Museum of Local History
Open in all houses of the Folk Museum 11 am – 5 pm.
- The Packhouse, a new themed exhibition about the corner shop, an exhibition on the history of Hafnarfjörður and a toy exhibition.
- Beggubúð, a retail heritage exhibition in the spirit of the national festival.
- The Sívertsen House, the story of Bjarne Sívertsen and the home of an upper-class family from the early 19th century.
- A well-preserved, newly restored and renovated example of a working-class family home from the early 20th century.
- The Good Templar Hall, an exhibition in the country's oldest meeting hall about the history of the Good Templars in the town and the cultural life in the building.
- Bookless Bungalow, an exhibition about the Bookless brothers and their publishing here in town.
- The Coastal Path, a new exhibition about the history of the Hafnarfjörður Municipal Fisheries.
Long-eared Owl
The Urturnar Sea Swimming Club will be guiding locals in sea swimming from 10 am to 3 pm.

East Road
The residents of East Street welcome residents of Hafnarfjörður and the surrounding area, and as in previous years, there will be plenty of fun and exciting things on offer.
Streets and squares
- Bouncy castles open at 13:00 across the festival site and will be open until 17:00.
- Unexpected happenings of the Hafnarfjörður Summer School Art Group.
- Unexpected Events of Creative Summer Jobs in Hafnarfjörður.
- A group from the Hafnarfjörður Work School will decorate the festival area with environmentally friendly balloons.
- The Sailing Club Þytur Offers visitors and passers-by the chance to try kayaks and rowing boats at Flensburg Harbour.
- Arctic Surfers are inviting guests to try SUP at the Learning Centre by the Stream.
- Children will be given rides on horses from the Sörli Riding Club at the end of Austurgata.

The gymnastics club Björk will be holding a barbecue and gymnastics fun with fire engines in the car park at the Venusarhús on Strandgata 11.

Hafnarfjörður Darts Club Offers passers-by the chance to try darts between 13:00 and 18:00 at the back of Reykjavikurvegur 64.
Blue Light Driving of the Capital Region Fire and Rescue Service
To mark the occasion, the Capital Region Fire and Rescue Service will be driving through several streets in the municipality with blue lights and the Icelandic flag between 11 am and 2 pm. Unfortunately, it is not possible to schedule this precisely, as the fire service is on duty as usual. Let's give them a warm welcome; it's a great opportunity to go out and celebrate.
