Hvaleyrarskóli is looking for a Year Group Leader for the Early Years until the end of the 2026-2027 academic year.

Hvaleyrarskóli has around 350 pupils in years 1 to 10. The school's motto is responsibility, courtesy and cooperation, and all its work is reflected in these words. The school works according to the SMT school-wide approach, which means that the emphasis is on approaching pupils in a positive way, paying more attention to good behaviour, and thus creating a positive school atmosphere. The school works according to the SMT, Olweus, beginning reading and word-by-word concepts, with an emphasis on chess and drama teaching.

Key responsibilities and duties:

• To provide general supervision and teaching at the youngest level in collaboration with school management, other teachers and parents.
• Working on the development of school operations in collaboration with management and colleagues, with an emphasis on teamwork.
• Working according to the National Curriculum for Primary Schools
• Promote the welfare of students in collaboration with parents and other professionals.
• Working in accordance with the school's policy on SMT school skills to create a good atmosphere in schools and ensure the safety and welfare of pupils and staff.

Educational and competency requirements:

• Teaching licence (copy of licence to be attached to the application)
• Interest and/or experience in pastoral care
• Initiative and organised working methods
• Positivity and an interest in working in a creative and ambitious environment
• Good command of Icelandic. The proficiency level is based on the C1 criteria of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
• Agility and positivity in communication and flexibility in work.
• Extensive computer skills and a good knowledge of G-Suite and Mentor
• Interest in team teaching and interdisciplinary collaboration

A clean criminal record is required upon employment.
